To my eyes, the only truly popular filmmakers we have are the Farrelly brothers, who work in a syntax that is not so different from that of a run-of-the-mill teen comedy (quick bursts of character, full-frontal lighting, music slathered all over the image, adolescent humor) but who make genuinely lyrical films motivated by a real appreciation for something that everyone else seems to have forgotten in their mad rush to stay on top: the working class.
